Celeriac (Apium graveolens var. dulce) Bulb Fennel (Foeniculum vulgare var. azorecum, Umbelliferae) TSW: 0,3-0,5 g, 1 g = 2000-3300 seeds. Sowing: For bulb harvest in autumn, sowing mid-March, planting end of May. For production of bunching celeriac with harvest from June, sowing is done from January. Minimum temperatue 18°C (risk of bolting). Early plantings need to be covered with plastic foil. Seed demand: Sowing in trays for pricking out 2 g/qm, 1 g for 1000 plants. Sowing in beds for pre-cultivation 0,3 g/qm, 1 g for 800-1000 plants. Plant density: Early cultivation under plastic foil 25 x 30 cm, normally 40 x 40-50 cm. With wider spacings the bulbs will grow too big and have an inferiour internal quality. Celeriac germinate slowly and rather unevenly. TSW: Sowing & planting: Seed demand: Cultivation: Consumption: 4-6 g, 1 g = 170-250 seeds. Direct sowings from end of May to the beginning of July. With bolting resistant varieties it is possible to sow from end of January in the greenhouse for plantings in March. Direct sowings 40 g/100 qm, with pre-cultivation 10 g/1000 plants. Spacing: 30 x 20 cm. For early plantings a temperature between 14-16°C is needed for the pre-cultivation. Too high temperatures have a negative effect on the interiour quality. Bulbs can be cooked, baked or steamed as vegetable or to be eaten raw as salad.
